A Fancy Website Is Useless If It Can’t Be Found.

The website for Uncorked! Idaho was recently launched by Fuel 3 Advertising. I would like to start by saying they did a nice job on the site. But I’m not writing this to commend their great Flash skills or design work. I recently found myself looking for the new website (which I new the URL was www.uncorkedidaho.com) but was unable to find it. Why not, you ask? Simple. I, like many web savvy people I know, have some weird aversion to typing an URL into my browser. If I can’t Google it, then I can’t find it.

Now this is basically a nice little story about the use of SEO in website design. Now I understand that the entire Uncorked website is in Flash. That’s fine and dandy. However, because it’s entirely in Flash, search engines have difficulty finding the site. There are no HTML buttons for the search engine to link. But that’s okay, it can be fixed. You can still use meta tags in Flash!

So I’m putting a challenge out there for Fuel 3 to make the Uncorked website more accessible to search engines. When I type Uncorked Idaho into google, that site should be at the top of the page. Most people when they see a flier aren’t going to remember the URL of a website. They are going to go home and google it. If it doesn’t come up, you’ve lost business. Now I believe that Uncorked! Idaho is a cool thing and I hope to see it prosper in the future. But for that to happen, it needs to be on the map.
